Stuart Hall: Representation Theory (EXTRA)
This is a description of Stuart Hall's representation theory.
Representation is how something (an event) and/or someone (people/groups), basically anything, are shown and presented to the audience. Aspects of society, such as gender, age, or ethnicity, are given meaning through the represention from media. On the other hand, according to the dictionary representation means the description or portrayal of someone or something in a particular way or as being of a certain nature.
For example, foreigners in Indonesia are represented as either stupid; reckless; trouble-makers, or wealthy/rich; adventurous; down to earth people. Both are true, however it depends on which reality the media will represent and how will it be potrayed to the audience that creates the stereotype (towards the foreigner). For instance, in the media: detik.com, foreigners tend to be represented positively: donating money to the locals, trying out local/tradisional activities, and ect. In contrast, sindonews.com potrays them negatively by representing events such as, foreigner fought with locals, trespassing holy places/temples, and other obstructive events.

MAGAZINES: TARGETING AUDIENCES THROUGH DEMOGRAPHICS AND PSYCHOGRAPHICS
This is an analysis of two front covers of a different magazine establishment. I worked in a group of four and assisted in analyzing and providing the magazine covers. My friend has digitalized the notes.

Statement Of Intent
This is my statement of intent for the magazine I will be producing for comp 1
Grammar mistake in the very last part of my statement of intent but it should still make sense and is understandable. I actually enjoyed writing my statement of intent, at first I was too lazy and tired to do it just by looking at I thought, "Oh this is gonna be a long one" It was but it was enjoyable, almost therapeutic actually. I think I did well and wrote a decent amount of information that will surely be of great help later on.

Magazine Research
Here you have my magazine research for Component 1's project.
For my comp 1 project, I will be analyzing 2 magazine covers in full detail and 4 magazines that include the cover, contents, and double page in less detail.
Here is a link to my Double Pageb Spread research + development ---> Double Page Spread: Research and Development
The magazine chose a kebab stick ready to go on a green plate as its primary image. The image was an overhead shot to show a clear image of the meal, this also includes the green sauce of the kebab stick on the bottom left. Kebab sticks are normally related to BBQs and parties, which represent celebrations. This choice of meal further emphasizes the message directed by the magazine, 'Celebrate spring!'. Shades of green can be seen all around the front cover, this usage of the color green by the magazine connotes health and/or healthy meals as green is generally associated with vegetables & fruits. If we see the coverlines it says "asparagus" which further fortifies this connotation.
Mini-Analysis
I do like the color scheme, it is very warm, and I appreciate that they stayed consistent with the colors. I like how there's one image of the woman doing yoga that stands out from the rest, it is bigger and takes up most of the space, which helps make it look diverse and distinct, making it not look dull and boring.

One quote from Stuart Hall that lingers in my mind is "Reality has no fixed meaning". That statement alone can change one's self, as it gives clarity to the perception of reality and/or life itself like it did mine. This media lesson isn't just about media, making movies, or analyzing magazines, it is something we can apply and utilize in our lives. That's how I see it. Anyway, I made a change in the format of my weekly progress writing due to my teacher's idea for the formatting.
